Methionine is an essential amino acid (protein building block) that has uric acid properties due to its sulphur content. Methionine can therefore be used as part of urinary stone therapy and as a preventative measure, particularly for struvite.

Recommended urine pH for struvite:
- Solution: 6.0 - 6.5
- Prohylaxis: 6.6 - 6.8
The urine pH should be checked regularly. At the beginning, it is best to do this once a day in the morning before feeding and once again during the day at least 4 hours after feeding.

Feeding recommendation for adult dogs and cats: Give Novomineral Vet-MET together with food and divided into meals. In addition, always give your pet free access to water. The daily dose depends on the urine pH value, but should not exceed the maximum recommendation.
- Dog: Daily up to 2 g per 5 kg body weight
- Cat: 1 - 2 g per animal per day
A measuring spoon is included with the product (measuring spoon small tin with approx. 1 g, large tin with approx. 2 g).
General recommendation for urine pH for:
- Struvit: < 6,9 zur Prophylaxe und < 6,5 zur Auflösung
- Calcium oxalate: approx. 7.0
- Urates, xanthine: 6.5 - 7.2
- Cystine: approx. 7.5
A high fluid intake is very important for urinary stones (e.g. via wet/fresh food or soaked dry food). The following foods should always be avoided.
- Struvite: No bones, potatoes or large amounts of meat
- Calcium oxalate: No bones, additional sources of calcium, dark leafy vegetables, beet, nuts, whole grain products, offal or buffalo hide bones
- Urates, xanthine: No offal, fish, brewer's yeast, algae and shellfish products or high amounts of meat
- Cystine: No eggs or high amounts of meat
