FAQ: What about hydrocyanic acid? Should the linseed be heated to deactivate the hydrocyanic acid?

First of all: there is absolutely no danger in feeding flaxseed to humans and animals in normal quantities - quite the opposite.

The EU has set a maximum value of 250 ppm of hydrocyanic acid for animal feed and pet food. You would have to feed approx. 1 kg/day to a 10 kg dog over a longer period of time to reach a critical level.

In addition, our special omega-3 flaxseed is dried to a moisture content of just 2-3% before it is ground. The effect of heat during drying significantly reduces the hydrocyanic acid content - this makes our linseed one of the highest quality products available on the market.

Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is an important parameter and we check this very strictly before every import.

Storage instructions: Store in a cool, dark and dry place. Once the pack has been opened, it is best to keep it tightly closed in the refrigerator.

Linseed has many great properties that make it a particularly healthy food and animal feed. And the plant is also sustainable.

  • Rich in healthy fats
  • Plant-based food with the highest content of omega-3 fatty acids
  • Low proportion of unhealthy, saturated fats
  • High soluble and insoluble fiber content
  • Gentle on the stomach thanks to the mucilage it contains
  • Rich in natural antioxidants (lignans)
  • High protein content
  • Sustainable plant

Our linseed undergoes a 12-step purification process. This gives us a product with a purity of 99.99%.

Linseed is susceptible to oxidation of the unsaturated fatty acids after grinding. To ensure a long shelf life without chemical preservation, our linseed is processed particularly gently using cold grinding.

By the way.... as our linseed is originally a food, you are welcome to share it with your four-legged friend for breakfast or a snack :-). The daily requirement of omega-3 fatty acids recommended by the German Nutrition Society (DGE) for an adult* would already be covered with 2 tablespoons (approx. 30 g) of our linseed.

(*DGE recommendation: 0.5 - 1.5 g EPA/DHA per day or 5 - 15 g ALA - after conversion of ALA into EPA/DHA)
