Taurine also plays a role in the regulation of the calcium balance in the cells and in the function of the nervous system. Carnitine is important for energy metabolism in the cells, especially in muscle cells. The heart muscle requires large amounts of energy in order to work effectively. Carnitine is a carrier to transport fatty acids into the mitochondria (energy center of the cell) where they are burned for energy.
